I’ve been writing ReviseSociology since 2014. Everything on this site is written by me, by hand, drawing on eighteen years of teaching A-level sociology and thirteen years as an AQA examiner.

My background

I hold an MA in Sociology and Social Research, completed in 2000. I taught A-level sociology from 2000 to 2018 — eighteen years in the classroom, working with students across the full ability range and through two full specification changes.

From 2005 to 2018 I was an examiner for AQA, marking across all three A-level papers. That included the first two years of the current 7192 specification, in 2017 and 2018 — so the model answers on this site and in the revision bundles are written by someone who has actually marked the paper students are sitting, against the mark scheme examiners use.

I no longer teach or examine — I now work as a caseworker for a Member of Parliament — but I’ve kept ReviseSociology going throughout, and I continue to update it against the current specification and each year’s papers.

What’s on this site

ReviseSociology covers the full AQA A-level sociology specification: education, families and households, beliefs in society, crime and deviance, the media, culture and identity, globalisation and global development, research methods, and social theory. There are also model answers to 10, 20 and 30 mark questions, and breakdowns of past papers.

Everything here is free. If you want it organised into something you can revise from directly, I sell revision bundles — over 200 pages of notes, 60 mind maps and 50 exemplar answers.

For more of an overview of the site please see About Revisesociology.com.

A note on how this is written

The A-level material — topic notes, model answers, exam guidance — is written by me, by hand. Some of the wider commentary uses AI assistance in drafting, and everything is reviewed by me before it goes up.
